Garage Conversion in La Habra Heights
Serving 90631 and La Habra, Whittier, Hacienda Heights
Properties in La Habra Heights tend to accumulate buildings: a detached garage at the top of the drive, a workshop, a store left from the grove years. Converting one into habitable space is often the most sensible way to add a room here, because the structure exists, the separation is already generous, and the parcel has no shortage of parking to worry about. The variable is condition — semi-rural outbuildings were built to very different standards, and honest assessment comes before enthusiasm.
Real projects. Real prices.
73 finished remodels published with their final price — nothing hidden.
What our finished LA work actually cost: 27 kitchens ran $23k–$84k, median $50k; 28 bathrooms $28k–$105k, median $38k; 17 whole-home remodels $36k–$440k, median $150k. Real final prices from our own job records, not estimates.
$30,000 A full-length double vanity under twin lit mirrors, with herringbone mosaic shower niches.
$40,000 White shaker cabinetry and brass pulls around a sage-green island under a beaded chandelier.
$56,000 Marble-look slab walls with matte black fittings and a backlit mirror over an oak vanity.
$75,000 Rift-oak flat-panel cabinetry with white uppers, a quartz island and a fluted tile backsplash.
$238,000 A walnut-fronted quartz island, arched openings, and sage-green stacked tile baths.
$275,000 A broad quartz island, a curved staircase with iron balusters, marble-look baths.
Detached buildings with a new job
Parking has never been the constraint
On acre-scale parcels with long drives, taking a bay out of service costs the household nothing it needs. That removes the argument that complicates conversions in denser cities and lets the project be judged purely on whether the resulting room is worth having.
Judging an outbuilding honestly
Foundations, framing, roof structure and bracing on an older detached building vary from excellent to alarming. Establishing where this one sits on that range decides whether the project is a fit-out, a strengthening exercise or, occasionally, a rebuild worth doing properly.
A room at the far end of the property
Distance from the house is exactly what makes these conversions valuable: an office where nobody interrupts, a studio that can make noise, a guest room with real independence. Designing the approach — lighting, surface, shelter — is part of making that separation feel considered rather than remote.
Bringing an old shell up to standard
Insulation, egress, ventilation, light and energy compliance all apply once the building becomes living space, and meeting them inside an existing rural structure takes drawings rather than improvisation. The city's Building Division reviews the work like any other building here.
Keeping the grove character of the property
Much of what makes these parcels special is the mature planting around them — old avocado and citrus, established shade, the sense of a property that grew rather than was laid out. A converted outbuilding should sit inside that rather than clearing a space in it. That means protecting root zones during the work, keeping equipment and spoil off ground that matters, choosing exterior materials and colours that recede among trees rather than announcing themselves, and designing the path to the building so it feels like part of the garden. The finished room is better for it, and so is everything growing around it.
