Dry grass, grey-green scrub, dark trunks and hard summer light are outside every window. Palettes taken from that landscape hold up in this light and tie the interior to the setting in a way an imported scheme cannot.

Dust from the hills, and how a house copes
Living against open space means fine dust, pollen and seed arrive through every open door for much of the year. Interiors that acknowledge that are markedly easier to live in: a proper transition zone at the entrance with somewhere to leave boots, floor finishes that do not show every particle, textiles that can be cleaned rather than merely admired, and window and door detailing that seals when it is closed. It is not a glamorous part of interior design and it is the part that decides whether a household enjoys the house or fights it. The setting is the reason to live here; the interior should make it effortless.
